Intel Graphics Media Accelerator

What is Intel Graphics Media Accelerator?

The Intel Graphics Media Accelerator was an integrated graphics solution for use in computers that do not require high graphics processing power, e.g. laptops, business computers, non-gaming computers and the like. It made it possible for users to evade using dedicated graphics cards as it was integrated directly into the motherboard. It supported DirectX 9 as well as Open GL 1.4—these were the current APIs at its time—and was also compatible with Windows 2000 and Windows XP. It made use of the processor’s memory and was equipped with v. 3.0 of Dynamic Video Memory Technology, which meant that it could use as much as 224MB for video processing and made use of dynamic video allocation, keeping memory free for other uses unless absolutely needed. It also supported media expansion cards.

The maximum resolution the Intel GMA supported was 2048x1536. It also supported dual screen displays. Its maximum rendering capabilities for 3D display were pegged at 4 pixels per clock and it had texture decompression capacities. Digital TV displays were supported by the product, as were different types of displays, from LVDS to CRT.
