Foobar2000 XPack is an audio playback software (XPack denoting one of its versions). The program supports a lot of audio file formats, including even the less common AU, Musepack, SND, Speex and WavPack file formats. Support for the more common FLAC, MP3, MP4 and AAC formats (among others) is provided too. The program’s interface is customizable and skinnable and Unicode is also supported. The software is capable of ripping audio tracks from CDs as well as converting them to new file formats. Furthermore, being extensible, it can gain additional features through installation of plug-ins. Users familiar with scripting can even craft their own plug-ins. For instance, some extensions of the program can add support for even more file formats.
Using the Discogs tagger provided with the software, users can take advantage of the comprehensive tagging abilities of Foobar2000 to add data tags that can help them manage their music. The application’s shortcuts can be customized to suit user preferences, as can the playlist sorting and view modes. Users can create their own playlists with it and can also set playlist playback modes (shuffle playback is available, for instance). The program is available for free.
