Compare Office is related to the Office suite distributed by Sun Microsystems from 1999 to 2009, which has since been offered as an open-source Office suite by the Apache Software Foundation.
Sun Microsystems’ OpenOffice.org provided users with an Office suite comparable to Microsoft Office, in that it also includes all the main applications found in a basic Office suite: a word processor, a spreadsheet app, a presentation program, a vector graphics editor, and a database management program.
All of these applications are compatible with MS Office apps, which means that the user can view, edit, and import MS Office documents through any of the OpenOffice.org app window. Users are likewise enabled to export their OpenOffice.org files to MS Office file extensions.
The word processor app is called Writer. Writer files may also be exported to PDF format. The spreadsheet app is known as Calc, it has an added feature that can automatically create a graph based on the data inputted by the user.
The presentation program is known as Impress. Users can create slide presentations using this app, and export their files to Adobe Flash. The vector graphics editor is called Draw, with features similar to Microsoft’s desktop publishing program, Microsoft Publisher. The database management program is known as Base, this app is comparable to Microsoft Access.
