The AMD Catalyst Control Center is the combined GPU driver and utility software for AMD’s ATI line of video cards. Aside from being a driver software that enables the computer to use the video card’s full capabilities, the Catalyst Control Center – or sometimes simply known as Catalyst – features a utility tool, or a control panel, which you can use to control and regulate certain aspects of your GPU’s performance. Using the Catalyst, you can set graphics rendering capabilities of your video card, or even control its video output to your monitor, or even set to which device it currently feeds an output to. The Catalyst Control Center runs on both Windows and Linux operating systems, with versions for 32-bit and 64-bit editions of these platforms.
First rolled out in 2002, the Catalyst Control Center initially contained several tools at the user’s disposal plus a unified driver architecture for all similar lines of the video cards under the ATI line. The Catalyst Control Center also contains HydraVision, a desktop management tool that controls the output of the video card to monitors, which is especially useful for setups with multiple displays, plus diagnostics and troubleshooting packages, and a built-in Multimedia Center.
