CADE from Weresc is a free alternative to Microsoft’s Visio, a vector graphics application that has recently been included as part of the Microsoft Office suite. CADE and Visio are competitors in the field of diagramming software, but whereas Visio is a paid application, CADE is free.
CADE prides itself on being compact and lightweight than its bigger counterpart, but it also allows for basic Visio functions; CADE can be used to create diagrams, flowcharts, schematics, and maps that can be used in Visio (and vice-versa; e.g. Visio-created files can be read in CADE as well). Blocks, shapes, and other object images (raster or vector) can be imported from Visio and accessed, manipulated and edited in CADE; furthermore, just as in Visio, working with CADE does not require a particular set of drawing skills. CADE also enables users to share drawings via Internet – drawings can be viewed by any browser, for example – although manipulation of the drawing a CADE installation must be present.
CADE also features collaborative modes via multiple-user markups, annotation, and locking/unlocking for project management. In addition, CADE can be customized with additional features, with support for scripting.
File.org aims to be the go-to resource for file type- and related software information. We spend countless hours researching various file formats and software that can open, convert, create or otherwise work with those files.
If you have additional information about which types of files CADE Application can process, please do get in touch - we would love hearing from you.
