AVS DVD Player is another name for the AVS Media Player, which was developed by Online Media Technologies. The program is capable of opening media in any of the existing DVD formats, WMV, QuickTime, 3GP, MP4, MPEG4 and more. It does not, however, have de-interlacing options for video playback. It has configurations available for 7.1, 5.1 and 3.1 speaker setups in full Surround Sound and is also able to play audio files in formats such as FLAC, OGG, M4A, WAV, MP3, AMR, and AAC.
Users can make use of the program to view slideshows (or discrete images) as well. It can open image formats such as TIFF, JPEG, GIF, BMP, PNG, RAS, TGA, EMF, PCX and WMF. The program also has localizations in Polish, French, Russian, Japanese, Spanish, German and Italian. As with video playback, full-screen and windowed views are possible.
The software is free and comes with several of the most popular codecs already bundled into it, sparing the user the trouble of seeking them out. While it is not available for Mac OS X systems, it can run on computers with Windows Vista, XP, 2003, 7 and 8 (up to 8.1).
