Ares is a free peer to peer (P2P) file-sharing program in the likes of giants of yesteryears, such as Kazaa and Limewire, and although it was nearly as old as these venerable pioneers Ares was never as well received. First developed and published in 2002, Ares has become one of the leading P2P software in the market, and its main advantage is that while other P2P clients are closed and proprietary, Ares is open source and its source code can be viewed by just about anyone. This allows users and fans to improve on its existing software architecture, and even troubleshoot bugs. Such new versions possible only by the participation of its community is the recent support for the BitTorrent protocol, Shoutcast radio stations, and even chat with other members of the community in real time.
This chat feature of the Ares application is powered by the Ares Chat Server, a component of the program that makes the application act as a messaging client, platform, host.
Ares has been plagued by bad controversy, since there have been a lot of “Ares clones” that are not affiliated with the project and are merely adware and malware using the Ares name. The developers of Ares and its community are therefore vigilant in telling people to download the program only from the main website of Ares to avoid these inconveniences.
File.org aims to be the go-to resource for file type- and related software information. We spend countless hours researching various file formats and software that can open, convert, create or otherwise work with those files.
If you have additional information about which types of files Ares Chat Server can process, please do get in touch - we would love hearing from you.
