What are TTS files and how to open them

What is a TTS file?

TTS files have multiple uses, and MPEG Transport Stream Video Data is one of them. Read more about the other uses further down the page.

MPEG Transport Stream Video Data

The .tts file extension is mainly a digital video and movie file type often encoded with MPEG- 2 video data. Primarily known as MPEG-TS (MPEG Transport Stream), the .tts files store video and audio data associated with several other extensions such as .mpg, .ts, and .m2ts.

It is also a standard multimedia container format for recording and streaming multiplexed video and audio files.

There are two types of .tts files: unencrypted and encrypted. Playing unencrypted .tts video files can be done in various multimedia players like Windows Media and VLC. But encrypted .tts files are less flexible, which is why they can only be played on devices where the files were generated or recorded. Examples of devices that save video recordings in encrypted TTS file format are the following: (1) TV units with recording features like Panasonic Viera, (2) PVRs or the Personal Video Recorder, and (3) DVB- Digital Video Broadcasting systems. To make it playable across other media players, encrypted .tts files can be converted into standard MPEG video format using the appropriate video converter.
