What is a TID file?

A .TID file is an AVCHD Thumbnail Index file.

The file extension .tid commonly refers to thumbnail files used in video files primarily related to Sony and Panasonic camcorder devices. TID file is an AVCHD Thumbnail Index. Like all thumbnail indexes, files with .tid file format can make the loading of the video faster into memory using the indexes generated. It is important that when the user tries playing the video, the video will not take too long to display. Thumbnail indexes can sometimes prevent the device to hang up, especially to those that feature high-definition imagery.

AVCHD (Advanced Video Codec High Definition) is a high-definition recording format introduced by Sony and Panasonic. AVCHD is a file-based format for the digital recording and playback of high-definition video. TID files are the cover, while AVCHD is the contents.

How to open TID files

Important: Different programs may use files with the TID file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your TID file is, you may need to try a few different programs.
