Origin

If you are looking for Origin, you have come to the right place. We explain what Origin is and point you to the official download.

What is Origin?

Electronic Arts’ Origin is a digital distribution and digital rights management (DRM) medium, as of this writing still in beta, which provides users with the ability to download games for the PC and mobile devices. Central to this concept is the Origin client, a free and downloadable piece of software, which in turn downloads a game from EA’s Origin catalog; the Origin client was formerly known as the EA Download Manager and the EA Downloader). According to Electronic Arts, Origin is their answer for Valve’s ubiquitous Steam service, which basically does the same thing, with a full release having similar features like auto-patching, achievements and rewards, cloud saves, and the like. As of 2011, Origin has been installed 9.3 million times in computers around the world.

EA Origin has several enticing features. One of this is that it supersedes an EA account, which used to be quite tedious and complicated, and unifies one account that can access the Origin store and download from it. Also, it has social capabilities like chat, profile management, social networking, game library sharing and integration with sites such as Facebook, Xbox Live and the Playstation Network. Origin however has received several criticisms due to EA’s dubious handling of Origin accounts.
