What are RCF files and how to open them

Are you having problems opening a RCF file or are you simply curious about its contents? We're here to explain the properties of these files and provide you with software that can open or handle your RCF files.

What is a RCF file?

Files that contain the .rcf file extension are used for a variety of file formats by a number of different software applications.

The .rcf file extension is most commonly used by the Prototype computer game. These RCF files contain the game files that are referenced by the application during a user’s game play.

The .rcf file extension is also used by the Colin McRae computer gaming application. These RCF files contain the race car configuration files that are referenced by the computer. When a user creates a race car within the game, each race car is saved in a file with the .rcf file suffix.

How to open RCF files

Important: Different programs may use files with the RCF file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your RCF file is, you may need to try a few different programs.
