Opening RA files

Did your computer fail to open a RA file? We explain what RA files are and recommend software that we know can open or convert your RA files.

What is a RA file?

Files that contain the .ra file extension are files that store audio data. These files have been created for the RealPlayer media playback application. The RA files are created with the RealAudio codec and the file format is proprietary to the RealNetworks Corporation.

The RA file format is a file format that was commonly used to stream music and radio broadcasts over the Internet to a user's computer. The files containing the .ra file format only contain audio data even though the RealPlayer is capable of playing video as well. The file format's video counterpart use files that are saved with the .rv file extension.

Try a universal file viewer

In addition to the products listed above, I would suggest that you try a universal file viewer like Free File Viewer. It can open over 200 different types of files - and very likely yours too! Download Free File Viewer.
