Opening NRG files

Did your computer fail to open a NRG file? We explain what NRG files are and recommend software that we know can open or convert your NRG files.

What is a NRG file?

The .nrg extension is assigned to files that have been created with the Nero media disc creation software. The NRG files contain CD or DVD disc images. These images can be exact copies of a CD or DVD or they may contain a collection of various files that can be mounted as a virtual disc to a user's hard drive. This allows the user to play certain media applications without the need for the physical disc in the hard drive.

The Nero software is often used to make copies and backups of CDs, DVDs and important computer files. When you create an NRG file you can play the file on your computer without the need for the actual disc that the file was created from. If you lose the original physical disc, you can burn the file to a new disc as a backup copy.

Try a universal file viewer

In addition to the products listed above, I would suggest that you try a universal file viewer like Free File Viewer. It can open over 200 different types of files - and very likely yours too! Download Free File Viewer.
