Opening NFO files

Did your computer fail to open a NFO file? We explain what NFO files are and recommend software that we know can open or convert your NFO files.

What is a NFO file?

Files that contain the .nfo file extension are text files that hold information about an application that has been downloaded to a user's computer hard drive from the Internet.

Files with the .nfo extension are often referred to as "readme" files. NFO files are written in ASCII text format. The file contains text explaining how to use the software, software release notes and information about the group who distributed the program.

Oftentimes pirated software applications will have NFO files attached to them, although the presence of an NFO file is not clear evidence of a program being a pirated product.

Try a universal file viewer

In addition to the products listed above, I would suggest that you try a universal file viewer like Free File Viewer. It can open over 200 different types of files - and very likely yours too! Download Free File Viewer.
