What are HTM files and how to open them

What is a HTM file?

HTM files have multiple uses, and HyperText Markup Language Document is one of them. Read more about the other uses further down the page.

HyperText Markup Language Document

HTM is an acronym for HyperText Markup, short for HyperText Markup Language (HTML). HTML is used to create web pages, and it is the foundation of all website content. HTML documents are made up of tags that tell browsers how to display text, images, videos, and other media on a page.

The user does not see the HTML code itself. Instead, their web browser reads the HTML and builds the web page layout displayed to the user based on the HTML content. A website visitor can see the contents of the HTML code by selecting the "View" and "Page Source" options from the menu of their Internet browser.

It is more common that HTML files use the HTML file extension.
