What is a GADGET file?

A .GADGET file is a Windows Vista Sidebar Gadget file.

The Windows Vista operating system uses files that contain the .gadget file extension for sidebar gadgets. These files contain small applications that provide desktop access to frequently used tools such as news tickers, clocks, maps, Internet radio streams, etc.

To use the GADGET files, you must install the Windows Sidebar, a panel that appears on the side of the Windows Vista desktop. You can keep your GADGET files in this sidebar to easily access the GADGET tools and information. GADGET applications are similar to WIDGET applications but are created specifically for the Windows sidebar utility.
