Opening FLA files

Did your computer fail to open a FLA file? We explain what FLA files are and recommend software that we know can open or convert your FLA files.

What is a FLA file?

Files that contain the .fla file extension are files that are used by the Adobe Flash application. The Adobe Flash application was previously referred to as Macromedia Flash. Adobe Systems acquired Macromedia in 2005.

Most Web browsers can support the Adobe Flash feature. Files that contain the .fla file extension store movies or animation files that have been created with the Adobe Flash application. These files are often saved as SWF files for use on the Internet.

The FLA file is a raw editable file that is saved by the Flash software application. The SWF file is the compressed file that is created from the FLA file for use on the Web.

Try a universal file viewer

In addition to the products listed above, I would suggest that you try a universal file viewer like Free File Viewer. It can open over 200 different types of files - and very likely yours too! Download Free File Viewer.
