What is a DCF file?
DCF files are media files that have been encoded with Digital Rights Management copy protection technology. This technology is often used by cell phones in order to save ringtones, videos, pictures and other playable media that has been copy-protected. Nokia was one of the first cell phone companies to use the DCF file format.
The DCF file format is similar in nature to the DM file format, however, with the DCF file format the rights object is located in a separate file and not within the DCF file itself.
The .dcf file extension is also used by the DisCryptor security software by Computer Security Technologies Ltd. This application allows for file encryption, data shredding and security keys for disks, files and folders. The software can also protect portable media devices such as USB memory sticks and zip drives.
