What are OPJ files and how to open them

What is an OPJ file?

OPJ files have multiple uses, and OrCAD Project is one of them. Read more about the other uses further down the page.

OrCAD Project

These files are associated with OrCAD PCB Designer. OPJ files contain printed circuit board projects that are used by electricians and mechanics to serve as a guide in installing or creating a wiring system for various electronic products and automobiles.

A printed circuit board, or PCB, is a thin plate on which chips and other electronic components are placed. It is the green board or card that holds the wiring components of the device.

Computers consist of one or more boards, often called cards or adapters. Cars also have PCBs used to run and control their internal system.

Manufacturers often use CAD-based software to design the PCB. These designs are frequently saved in .opj format. The OPJ file is a CAD project file created using OrCAD - a program used for designing PCB. It also holds references to files included in the project and specific project settings.

Although .opj files are saved in a plain text format, modifications should only be done using OrCAD software and not with Text Editor applications.

While OrCAD Project is a popular type of OPJ-file, we know of 2 different uses of the .OPJ file extension. Different software may use files with the same extension for different types of data.

Origin Project

We know that one OPJ format is Origin Project. We have not yet analyzed in detail what these files contain and what they are used for. We're working on it.
